Do You Need to Rehome a Ferret
Rehoming Recommendations
There are so many abusers, hoarders and irresponsible pet owners. It is your responsibility as an owner to ensure your ferrets safety when rehoming.
We recommend screening potential adopters via a home check and vet reference. What to look for/ask during home check (Home checks can be done virtually via FaceTime etc. or in person.)
- How much time a day will my ferret spend outside of their cage playing? (2 hours should be the minimum)
- Will they be free range or kept in a cage unless it’s playtime?
- Have you ever rehomed an animal before-if yes, for what reason?
- What to look for Is the home clean?
- Is the home safe?
- What kind of condition are their other animals in?
- What do they plan on feeding the ferret? (Ferrets are obligate carnivores- we feed ours Wysong Epigen 90- digestive blend.)
- Are they aware of common medical issues associated with ferrets?
- Are they willing to send periodic updates to you (video/picture.)?
Questions to ask when calling interested adopters' vet:
- Do they have a vet who specializes in exotics?
- Where is the closest emergency vet near them that sees exotics?
- Are all of their animals spayed/neutered?
- Do they bring all of their animals in for yearly checkups?
- Are all of their animals up to date on vaccinations?
- Do you recommend that I rehome to this person?
